Carnival in Eindhoven: eating in the centre

During carnival Eindhoven is not called Eindhoven but Lampegat, and the whole centre joins in — from the Markt to Stratumseind, with party tents on the squares and a parade of floats through the city on the Saturday. The local greeting is "Salaai", not the "Alaaf" you hear elsewhere in the south.

Sit down, eat something solid

Carnival lasts five days and runs day and night. At some point you need to sit down, and you need something more substantial than what is being poured at the bar. We are on Kerkstraat, a few minutes from the Markt, and open every day of it.

In costume, mid-polonaise, with half a brass band behind you: fine. No dress code, no reservations. All we ask is a little patience when it is busy — and during carnival, it is busy.

Practical

The centre is close to unreachable by car on those days, especially on the Saturday when the parade runs. Come on foot, by bike or by train — the station is a five-minute walk away.
